Please Note :- Places will be allocated, where possible, on an even spread across local authorities with a proportion for independent schools, which are in SSERC membership. Places will be allocated on the closing date and delegates will be notified of a place as soon after that date as possible.
Course Description - The course will be coordinated and organised by staff from SSERC and delivered by nationally recognised experts in their field. Participants will be provided with a variety of supporting publications and resources and on-going access to advice and support both during the course and once it has been completed.
Coverage will include:
- Curriculum and course development issues with particular reference to Curriculum for Excellence
- Areas for development identified in the HMIe report Science: A portrait of current practice in Scottish Schools
- Improving learning and teaching through self evaluation
- Approaches to managing science health and safety issues
- Science departmental/faculty issues and policies
- Leading teams and managing change
Draft Programme [PDF - 75 KB] Target Audiences - The course is aimed at all of those who have, or aspire to have, responsibility for leading science education in their establishments. Although some leadership skills are generic, there are aspects of science education which require specific leadership skills and have particular management responsibilities. These particular responsibilities as well as wider leadership issues will be considered in science specific contexts.
Venue - Crieff Hydro Accommodation will be for 3 nights, dinner, bed and breakfast in part one and 1 night in part two.

Fee: £850 (However a grant of £1200 is
available to those in the local authority sector). Please note that these
courses are underpinned and supported from a variety of third-party
sources. In the event of failure to attend the course, without
adequate reason, the full cost of the residential course (£850) will
be charged. Please ensure that your institution is aware of this rule
prior to submission of your registration.
These residential courses are sponsored by the Scottish Government and are designed and organised by a partnership which includes: the Institute of Physics in Scotland, Royal Society of Chemistry, SAPS Scotland, The University of Edinburgh (the School of Chemistry, SIBE) and SSERC.
